Elara for the most part was a good experience. All the nurses, social worker and chaplain were so kind during the most heart breaking time in my life. However there was a nurse named Vanessa that could use more training on how to deal with family members who are experiencing the death process for the first time. She was rude and impatient. Even had to audacity to ask if I was mentally / emotionally stable and if i was taking medication for my sadness and worried state.
If I could give zero stars, I would. This hospice agency denied care to my mother when she needed it most. She had Stage IV cancer and was actively seizing, yet the nurse told us she “didn’t qualify because she couldn’t justify to Medicare that hospice care would be any different than the comfort care she was receiving in the ICU." This denial delayed critical palliative care, prolonging her seizures and unnecessary suffering. The nurse's conduct was cruel, unprofessional, and negligent, violating hospice admission requirements. My mother didn’t even have Medicare , she had private insurance, and the nurse didn’t bother to check her records before turning us away. Because of this denial, my mother’s hospice admission was delayed, and she endured unnecessary seizures and suffering in her final days. The shows a serious lack of training and compassion. No family should ever have to experience this kind of treatment. I hope this review serves as a warning and as a call for accountability.
Elara has been a life saver. They have been so accommodating, offering great care. I’m so grateful for Tanya all all her personal care.
