My father was on hospice from July 16-18. From the onset, the only person who showed any compassion was Sean, the community educator. The intake nurse had such a heavy accent it was extremely difficult to understand what he was saying. When asked which medication was prescribed to dry secretions, he said “I don't know”, then proceeded to look it up on his cellphone and handed it to me to read. It took three hours for the nurse on call to respond the first night . We had an important question about medications. The second day our father was on hospice, and we had yet to see or hear from the visiting nurse. We were given very little information about hospice, the dying process, what to expect, etc. We were told to read the booklet that was provided. Apparently they thought we had the time and mental wherewithal to read 40 pages of information as our father lay dying. After he passed, my sister-the HCP-got several calls telling her when the nurse would be visiting our father. They were unaware that he had passed!! A hospice nurse came out when we called to pronounce him deceased. Where was the communication?? They continued to leave voicemails for a couple more days. The reason I gave even 2 stars was because Sean was compassionate, kind, and very helpful.
I can't say enough positive things about my experience with Harbor. Specifically, Russell was hands-onthe entire process. My family and I felt safe the entire way through.
Russell Smith was the representative with Harbor Hospice that assisted me with transitioning my stepfather to Hospice. It was a very difficult time and I needed a guiding hand. He has very helpful, patient and considerate of my feelings at all times. He was always readily available with answers to my questions. He also was sympathetic and kind to me whenever we spoke. I was very fortunate to have Russell as my representative. A thousand thanks Russell! CB
