Melissa was nice to work with. She's the one who got my grandfather signed up for hospice. He was only on it for around 3 days before passing, but I was pretty disappointed with the experience. I've heard people rave about how great and helpful hospice is, but I didn't feel that way with Silverado. It wasn't bad by any means, it just felt lacking. He was in the hospital, so I don't know if things would have been different had he been at home? I guess everyone seemed kind of indifferent. At some point before he passed away my aunt asked the nurse how long she thought it would be and she said she wasn't sure beyond a couple days. He ended up dying early next morning and the hospital nurse said something along the lines of "the hospice nurse thought it might be today", which she didn't tell us. It was ok because everyone had said goodbye, but it would have been nice to get that info. We were surprised she told the nurse at the hospital but not us. Maybe it was a miscommunication, but it was an unfortunate one
I recently went with Silverado Hospice to care for my father. Everyone from Courtney the Liasson, Heather the nurse, Alex the Social Worker, to Emily the Chaplain, were truly amazing and really made my Dad as comfortable as possible. Separately they were a tremendous help to me personally as I attempted to navigate the world of end of life health care and all that comes with that. My Dad was a unique guy in some ways but the team at Silverado went above and beyond to seek out opportunities to satisfy his wants and needs every step of the way. Silverado Hospice allowed my Dad to pass with comfort and dignity, and I couldn't be more grateful.
We have worked closely with Silverado over the years. They have one of the best tenured staff in Austin. They have always been available to us at a moments notice. Most Hospice groups have a huge problem with communication. I can say from personal experience that they communicate extremely well and follow-up on any issue that might come up. I can also say that when others might drop the ball they will pickup the slack to insure their patient does not go without, whether it be day, night, or over the weekend. Thank you Silverado for the care and compassion that you give to our extended family of se iors. Love you guys, Don
