My experience with this hospice company was unfortunately very disappointing, primarily because of the lack of communication during my mother’s final days. I want to first acknowledge Amanda, the nurse who completed my mother’s initial assessment. She was efficient, professional, kind, and compassionate. As an RN myself, I believe in giving credit where credit is due, and my experience with her was excellent. After my mother’s care was transferred to another nurse in December 2025, communication became extremely limited. I can recall receiving approximately five text messages from the nurse during the entire time she managed my mother’s care. I did not have concerns about the clinical care being provided; my concern was that I was not adequately informed about significant changes in my mother’s condition. Most upsetting, I learned from my mother’s aide and the facility (not her hospice nurse) that my mother was actively dying. Comfort care had already been initiated approximately two days before I was notified. My mother passed away the following day. That was precious time with my mother that I can never get back. I contacted the Nurse Director regarding my concerns, but initially felt that more effort was made to praise and defend the nurse than to acknowledge what my family had experienced. A nurse may provide wonderful care to others, but unfortunately, that was not my experience when it came to communication. As both a daughter and an RN, I understand the demands of nursing and do not make these statements lightly. However, hospice is not only about caring for the patient—it is also about preparing, educating, and supporting the family through the dying process. Families should never have to learn from an aide that their loved one has been actively dying for days. I hope this feedback encourages this company to evaluate its communication practices so another family does not lose precious time with someone they love.

Margie bathes my Mom at Pipestone, takes care of all her requests and endures all her complaints and difficult attitude with patience and kindness. It takes a special person to care for our elderly loved ones. Please let Margie know how much we appreciate her hard work. Thank you!

Families often have questions beyond hospice care — estate planning, elder law, funeral planning, and more. Placements are limited and selective — we review applications and only accept organizations that meet our standards for this section. Listings are paid advertising, not recommendations or endorsements. Families review the information and choose professionals for themselves.
