Harbor Hospice - Jasper

Harbor Hospice is amazing. My father and my brother were both patients within two weeks of one another. Although a tragic situation for our family - hospice is what hospice is - the Harbor Team made an otherwise difficult situation, comforting. Since this was our family's first time dealing with an "End of Life" situation, we had no idea what to expect. From a personal perspective with zero experience, I felt like I was committing my father to an end of life prison where he would simply whither away in isolation. I experienced this reality when my best friend from college was placed into hospice in the Houston Area a few years ago - needless to say, I was worried. Harbor Hospice shattered all of my worries from the moment we arrived. It seemed like the entire team was waiting for us at the door as we completed the transport from St. Elizabeth Hospital in Beaumont. They established calming and comforting communication immediately which made my father and myself feel like we were the only patient and family in the facility. The interpersonal communication and focus were outstanding and the attention to every detail - questions, answers, health, finance, legal, etc. - were handled in a methodical and complete manner with no questions or concerns hanging or unanswered. Although my father was a a difficult patient at times, the genuine care for his comfort was demonstrated by every person I encountered at all levels - Administrator through cleaning team. Each person in every interaction knew how stressed I was and regardless of question, need, or request, handled the variety of situations as if I were their family member. The professionalism, patience, and understanding that was displayed allowed me to focus on my father in his time of need and not even have to think about what might happen next - immediately and permanently transferring my stress to comfort and confidence. If you have read this far on this review, I know one of two things, you either like to read reviews completely, or you have a family member about to enter hospice and you are as worried as I was about actually taking the next step. If it is the second thing, I want you to know that if you have chosen Harbor Hospice in Jasper, Texas, you have made the right decision. Not everything you are about to experience is going to progress perfectly - the end of life process is far from pretty or perfect. However, if perfection can be achieved, the team that exists at Harbor Hospice of Jasper, Texas has perfected the art of End of Life Care. I highly recommend this facility and hope that when my time comes, I receive the care that they provided for my father as a patient that my family receives the care that they provided to me as a family member. I extend my heartfelt thanks to the Harbor Hospice team for making this journey as smooth as it could possibly be for my father (and brother) and my family. Your team is amazing.

My precious wife went into hospice at the end of May. She went home to her savior at the end of July. For 2 months she was receiving wonderful care from Harbor Hospice. She was in their Jasper inpatient facility for 4 days so we were able to see their inpatient and at home care. Both were outstanding. Rhonda, you're a wonderful nurse. I so admire you, your compassion, empathy, patience, and composure. You took good care of my Sweetie and us. Thank you for giving us a part of who you are. Thank you Margo for your gentleness. You cared for her like she was your own mother. Thank you. Crystal you're awesome You were here when she came home and here when she went to her heavenly home. Thank you. Ms Lynn and Kelly, thank you neighbors. You too took good care of her, for which I will always be grateful. Everyone at the inpatient facility was great. Dr Brown, you are the man! Noah, your prayers and counsel were like water to a parched land. Thank you all.

Harbor Hospice, Jasper failed to provide service and treatment they agreed and contracted to perform. Harbor Hospice was contacted to perform behavioral assessment, treatment and communications to family, patient sent to Jasper from about an hour transport in ambulance for their service. The plan was 2-3 days, after less than 4 hours, the staff decided to send patient to Jasper hospital, with no permission or communication from family. Jasper hospital reported the patient diagnosis was behavior treatment provided by Harbor Hospice, and stated there was no medical emergency, in addition they don’t normally intake behavioral patients. But must perform medical evaluation. Recommend not using Harbor Hospice they do not communicate with family and get permission to send patient to hospital or facility of choice, fail to provide service. Intake patients they do not have the skills or knowledge to service and then send out without getting permission from family or doctor.
